I may not have all the free time to finish books in a day like I did before I became a mom but I still try to carve out a few minutes a day. Even if it’s just ten minutes before bed or listening to an audiobook while I get myself together in the mornings. Here are some good books to read this summer that are on my to be read list and should be on yours too!

Fire Island by Jack Parlett

I’ve lived on Long Island full time since college and yet I’ve never been to Fire Island. Every summer I say this will be the year I go and I never make it. This book will make me feel like I’m there. Fire Island is a small little beach town off the main island. It’s accessible by ferry and comes alive during the summer. For years it’s been a safe haven for the LGBTQIA community. Parlett tells the story of Fire Island’s history and culture.

Olga Dies Dreaming by Xochitl Gonzalez

This is a Latinx romantic comedy with substance. I like romcoms but enjoy them so much more when the characters are fully fleshed out and Gonzalez’s book seems to have done it well! Prieto is a Brooklyn congressman. Olga is a wedding planner for the one percent. Their mom left them to be raised by their Abuela while she pursued a radical political cause and now she’s come storming back into their lives. Olga is forced to deal with her trauma when a new romantic partner enters her life.
