Winter Reading List

It’s getting colder out, Christmas and New Year’s are around the corner, and I have extra time off from now through February. With the extra time off to myself, there are a few books I’d like to read. I like to stay inside with my fireplace on drinking something nice and warm. If I can avoid going out when it’s freezing cold out, I’ll stay inside. There is nothing better to me on a wintery day that to remain warm while reading a book.

Winter Reading List // The Krystal Diaries

I’ve had two of these books on my bookshelf for a while now, probably over a year. One of them I just ordered on Amazon Prime after I heard really good things about it on a few different blogs.

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing

This book is supposed to be life changing. I don’t know if I’m expecting that kind of results after reading this, but I am looking forward to learning how to de-clutter my house. I am pretty organized, and I try to throw out or donate things I no longer need. However, I know I can probably do a better job at it, and I want to live a more minimalistic lifestyle when it comes to things. I just ordered this one, received it in two days, and started reading it over the weekend.

Girl Code: Unlocking the Secrets to Success, Sanity, and Happiness for the Female Entrepreneur

This is one of the books I’ve had for a long time now, and I still haven’t opened it up. I’ve been trying to read one female business/life oriented book every few months. It’s been compared to #GirlBoss and I enjoyed that book so hopefully this is a good read too.

Brooklyn

I’ve had this book for a long time too. I purchased it when the movie came out, and I actually didn’t know it was a book until the movie was out. I like historical fiction that’s loosely based on real history. Plus the main character immigrated to Brooklyn, so that caught my attention right away. The movie is on my list to watch as well, but I can’t watch the movie until I read the book. The book always comes first, unless I don’t know the movie is based on a book, which almost happened with this one.

The only one I haven’t read of these is Girl Code. I really liked Brooklyn, but really DIDN’T like Tidying up. Maybe I just wasn’t in the right frame of mind to read it.

I really enjoyed Brooklyn as well. I felt I could appreciate the movie much more by having read the book first so I knew what was skipped or covered quickly in the movie.

I’m a natural purger, so I feel like this book would echo my own policies. After something has passed it’s “holding period” of use, it gets passed to recycle, trash, or otherwise.

I read “The Life-changing magic of tidying up” and while her process makes perfect sense, I find it SO hard to tidying up immediately after everything I do! (Read: Kind of lazy) I read Girl Boss (loved) so will definitely add Girl Code to my Kindle list!

I’d love to do some reading for myself. I just haven’t found the time. Since I homeschool I am constantly reading what is next for my daughter to read. So my list has dwindled to middle school reading level right now. Maybe this summer!
