Ways to Give Back this Thanksgiving Season

After Halloween BAM it’s like Christmas is everywhere. Stores are decorated for Christmas, commercials are all Christmasy, people bust out their Christmas decor and lights go up everywhere. Not for me, though, after Halloween comes Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday. Thanksgiving is my fave because it’s about spending time with loved ones. There’s no fancy or pretty gifts, just good food and times well spent.

Thanksgiving is about being thankful for the good in our lives. What better way to show our gratefulness than to give back to others around us? Giving back doesn’t have to involve anything big, elaborate, or expensive. Here are a few ideas to give back this Thanksgiving season.

Donate

I’m big into donating. Periodically, I like to go through my belongings, pick out what I haven’t used in the last year, determine if someone else could get use out of it, and donate it to a local charity. Instead of always selling your unused items why not try donating them this month?

Buy someone a coffee

Know someone who is having a hard time or stressful week? Buy them a coffee or tea. Don’t know how they like their coffee or tea? Get them a gift card. Sometimes the smallest gestures can turn a whole person’s day around.

Start a canned food drive

We all enjoy stuffing ourselves with plenty of good food, desserts, and drinks on Thanksgiving. The food is one of my favorite parts about Thanksgiving. A great way to give back is starting a collection for canned non-perishable foods. Move For Hunger or Feeding America are both good options to start a drive. Not everyone is lucky enough to have pantries full of food for Thanksgiving.

Volunteer your time

Run errands for someone who doesn’t have the time or can’t do it themselves, read stories to children, help out at a local church, or head on over to an animal shelter.

These are such great ways to give back! Whenever I see a homeless person outside starbucks or dunkin I try to bring them out a snack or meal. We have to give to those less fortunate.

I am a huge believer of giving without receiving…. I love having my kids watch me do little acts of kindness, so they will do it in the future naturally. Love these ideas!

Love this, all are great ideas to embrace what this season is all about. We get so wrapped up in our own priorities and details that we forget to take care of others. Thanks for the ideas!

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday too! I love that it is just about people. No gifts just people. It also doesn’t hurt that there is AMAZING food! haha Love this post! It’s always great to give back.

I always try and donate as much as possible. I think it’s the best way to go even if you drop off to goodwill or post on craigslist donating stuff for free, etc.

Great ideas! I also like donating. We also do the can food drive. I should probably volunteer more but I’m an introvert and people tend to irk me.

After reading your post, I’m planning to donate my unused makeup and tools for this charity group of orphans. They organizer is planning a workshop for them to teach them make-up skills and hair cutting so that they could use that skill to earn a living. I’ll ask my friends to do the same 🙂

Good ideas Krystal! I enjoy giving back in non material ways, especially this time of the year. I’m one of those people who go straight from Halloween to Christmas. Actually waiting for my tree skirt to come in the mail now, haha!
