I Just Want to Travel (Plus a Giveaway)

I wish I could travel more…who hasn’t thought or said that at least a couple times in their life? I know I say it all the freaking time. Traveling is just so much fun, and I enjoy every minute of it. From the planning to booking, then getting to the destination – I love going to airports, and spending time in whatever foreign local. Going back home is the only part of traveling I really dislike but really who does like when their vacay is coming to an end?

I Just Want to Travel (Plus a Giveaway) // The Krystal Diaries

My work obligations don’t allow for unlimited travel days, but I do try to squeeze in one or two trips a year. I’ll admit, it’s not always easy with the small amount of vacation time I get – 10 days, but I make it work. I try to plan my trips from Saturday to Saturdays so I’m away for seven nights but only using five days off from work. I don’t want to look back on my life when I’m old and gray wishing I would have visited somewhere but came up with excuses not too. So if it’s only one trip a year that I can manage, you better believe I’ll be taking that one trip. Come the end of the year, vacation days will never be left on the table at my job!

So next month, the hubby and I are off to Montreal for our five year wedding anniversary. It’s a change of pace from our past vacations – Mexico, Aruba, Dominican Republic but I’m so excited for it. I’m excited to visit a city in another country and take in the culture. Poutine is the food to try, or so I’ve read, and you better believe I’ll be trying it as soon as we arrive in Montreal.

Who has been to or is from Montreal? What are some places to see, restaurants to try and things to do while we’re there? I’d love to get some tips!

P.S. I’m all about food so if you have favorite restaurants do share!

Do you wish you could travel more often?

If you’re a frequent traveler, how do you do it? Please share your secrets 🙂

I love to travel too!! Montreal sounds amazing! We work really hard all year to budget money and my time off work. I wish we could travel all the time but my kids are in school too! It is a balance and we try to make the best of long weekends and summer break!

I’ve never traveled to Canada for a vacation. I just discovered the beauty of Banff – so I’m hoping for a trip up there soon. We have Vegas & Cabo already planned for this summer (for my husband’s bday & our anniversary)…

Before having children I travelled around Australia (where I live) but have never been overseas. Now being a single mother with 4 children going overseas does seem like a dream that will never happen. I think it’s time I started setting goals.

I was in Montreal years ago and I only remember that it was so clean and there is the French influence in some parts. You motivate me to travel more even though I hate packing and have my dogs.

I’m not the best traveler but I do like to go places as long as I can fly there and cut down on travel time. I just got back from a trip and sadly my flight was delayed leaving me stuck in a tiny completely packed airport for over 4 hours, but I survived!

I used to live in Montreal, it’s a wonderful city!! You’ll really enjoy it. It’s still going to be cold probably and most likely there will still be a lot of snow, so you should bring really warm clothes.

When it gets too cold make sure to stay in the Underground City. You can shop, eat, watch movies, all without going outside.

The Old Town is really lovely to see, and the Plateau area is just gorgeous with really beautiful houses. The whole area around the McGill campus is great as well, I went to university there, so I have very fond memories, but I think even if you’re not a student you will like it.

As far as restaurants go, there was a great Indian restaurant called Dev’s close to Plamondon metro (I just looked it up, and it’s called Didar now).

Close to Concordia University there’s a Lebanese fast food place called Al-Taib which has really nice pizza.

You could also check out Jean-Talon market which has some food stalls including Latin American foods, such as great empanadas

We try for a trip at least once a year. I have a ton of vacay time saved up, but Hubby doesn’t. We have to be judicious of what trips we take because of that. But when we do travel, it’s usually for two weeks.

We enjoy traveling but it takes quite a bit of planning for my family of 5. This past summer we spent two amazing weeks in Spain staying with family friends for most of it which made it “economical” for 5 of us but the plane tickets were not economical. Last year we went on a Disney cruise to the Bahamas which i’m convinced is the stress free way for us to see the world, we just have to save up for it! We have definitely been bitten by the travel bug. Have a blast in Montreal. I’ve been to Toronto and Niagara Falls as a kid but haven’t been back to Canada in quite some time.

I am so with you on utilizing your vacation time. I constantly am trying to find ways to travel more. I try to take advantage of the national holidays and take one or two days from there. Although it tends to be more expensive at times to travel during a holiday. I find it easier to request time off and go on more trips. I hope you have a fun time in Montreal! So happy to read you’re traveling to somewhere new!

Montreal is a beautiful city! I am Canadian and was there some 20 years ago so I am sure much has changed! Being a Canadian who does not speak French was problematic for us. Many back then would only speak French although knowing fluent English. You have have to visit Old Montreal as well as the Notre Dame Cathedral – both stunningly beautiful!

I know what you mean — I know some people who save up their vacation days and then max out on a “long” holiday. Because of where I live, it’s easy to fly out of the country on weekends to visit neighbouring countries, so one doesn’t have to use up their vacation days. I guess that benefits people who like short getaways.

I hope you have a good time in Montreal! And advance Happy Anniversary 🙂
