Body Shaming

Can the Body Shaming Stop Already

I don’t know about you but these pictures make me mad.

Are these supposed to be motivating? To me they look like bad memes some insecure mean girl or boy created to put down women who do not have the “ideal” body type in the name of fitness motivation. I use the words girl or boy purposely, any truly mature, respectful woman or man would never judge another.

These pictures are just a different form a body shaming. It may not be as obvious as other forms but it’s still body shaming.

I will never be acceptable to make fun of women, degrade them, put them down, or use their pictures in memes because they are not someone’s skewed idea of “perfect”. There is no “perfect” body type. Using a picture of a woman who is heavier than another and then claiming fitness motivation is not ok.

What makes these body shaming people think having a thin or athletic body type is everyone’s idea of “perfect”?

These memes could be flipped around, maybe that fit muscular body is not motivation for some. Maybe they prefer to be heavier and that is OK!

Body shaming works both ways. Women are criticized for being too skinny or too fit as well.

Recently, Ronda Rousey answered back to those who were claiming her body was too manly and muscular. (skip to 6:40 to hear her response)

Bethenny Frankel has been criticized for years for being too skinny.

So which is it? Should women be skinny, muscular or heavy?

How about this – whether or not a lady is muscular, skinny, or heavy she should not be put down.

We come in all body shapes and sizes. One is no better than another. So can we stop with the body shaming already? It’s getting kind of old.

Oh I have so many thoughts on this topic! Where to start? I’ll just say that I completely agree with you. Body shaming, regardless of the body type being shamed, needs to STOP! Period.
