Now that I’ve been a 30 year old for a whole three months, I consider myself quite the expert at all things 30-something year old. Well not really, it doesn’t feel any different from being 29 BUT I have been into anti-aging products since I was 25ish. The earlier you start getting into a good anti-aging routine the better. I believe you can never start too young once you’re in your twenties. Taking care of your skin is important so why delay it?
Seriously drink lots of water, every single day. I know there are a couple different theories about how much water we should drink but I try to stick to drinking half my body weight in ounces each day. I fill up my HydroFlask twice a day and sip on it all day long. I drink water with lunch and dinner instead of juices or sodas. I never drink soda, unless there’s alcohol involved.
Each and everyday, even on cloudy days. I wear a minimum of SPF 30 on my face and neck underneath my makeup. Sometimes I use this SPF 50 lotion on my face. I also, use this Supergoop body lotion in the summers with SPF 40 every day. During the winter months, I switch to this Alba Botanicals body lotion with SPF 15. For my hands, I actually use this Supergoop hand cream with SPF 40 all year long. Our hands get a lot of sun, especially when driving, without us realizing it.
Use Both a Toner and Serum
Put the toner on before the serum and both before any lotions or sunscreens. I use the Murad Essential C toner spray during the day and Mario Badescu’s Rose Water spray at night. Both are refreshing and smell great. The Essential C toner helps to brighten skin and fights free radicals. I prefer the Mario Badescu spray at night because the light smell is relaxing and there’s aloe in it to help calm and refresh my skin after wearing makeup all day.
Once the toner has dried, I follow up with a serum. I used this Algenist one for about two months and it worked wonders. My skin is smoother and my dark spots have faded BUT it’s super pricey. So I’ve switched over to this Vitamin C serum which is much more budget friendly. I use it both day and night.
Wear a Good Eye Cream
Wear it both day and night. I use two different ones, this It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye one at night and Biossance Squalane + Peptide Eye Gel during the day. I started using the It Cosmetics first and love it but I wanted to switch it up during the day and use a de-puffing one. I’ve seen such a huge change in the skin around my eyes. For one, my skin isn’t as dry anymore. I’m not seeing crows feet yet but I was noticing some crepey skin which is completely gone now. When I started with eye creams, I was using an Olay one. Truthfully it did nothing for me and was so disappointing.
Moisturize Before Bed
I held out on using night creams for the longest! I caved about a year ago and now I wish I would have started sooner. I shied away from them because I have oily/combo acne prone skin. I just assumed a night cream or oil would make my acne worse. Just the opposite has happened, my acne has gotten much much better. If you’re oily/combo acne prone like me – yes even still at 30 – then I suggest this Ren ClearCalm 3 Replenishing Gel Cream. It’s moisturizing but not oily at all.
Don’t Neglect Your Lips
Lips can show signs of aging too! I use Kaplan MD’s lip mask/gloss combo each night and this gloss during the day. They don’t sell the two together anymore unfortuantely and I wish they still did because the mask was so much cheaper than the large size being sold now. I little bit goes a long way though, so the jar will last forever. I apply a thin layer of the mask to my lips, after removing any dead skin, add a thin layer of the gloss on top then I sleep with it on like that. Sometimes it tingles a bit but nothing extreme. The Jack Black gloss I use during the day has SPF 25 in it too which is great. It’s not greasy or sticky feeling either. I can layer lipsticks over it with no problem.
Give Collagen Powder a Try
I just recently started using collagen powder daily so I can’t one hundred percent vouch for it but supposedly it works wonders from the inside out. Collagen can help restore moisture and elasticity in our skin. It can also help support connective tissues, can help increase bone density. Currently, I’m using the one from Vital Proteins every day either in my smoothies or coffee.
It was a lot of trial and error at first but I feel like I’ve finally gotten myself into a good routine with products that work really well and I can see results. I know it seems like so many products and so much to keep up with but it really does work. Hey, the more I take care of my skin now, the longer I can put off botox right? I’m joking, sort of, completely joking.
